Howard Lions Head Coach, Alan Feldblum, and Oakland Mills Head Coach, Seth Willingham, will both be stepping down to spend more time with their families. Unfortunately, this means that two football programs that were definately on the rise could feel the pains of adjusting to a new head coach.
Feldblum finally got Lions fans talking playoffs again and Willingham was steadily rebuilding a program that had hit rock bottom after the grade-changing scandal a few years ago.
We commend both coaches for being able to make such a difficult decision. Being a high school coach is essentially adding another full-time job on top of teaching (or whatever career they may have). Those that do it, love it. They have to. But those with young families surely find it difficult balancing a job, coaching, and having young children that you don't want to miss growing up. This is probably a difficult decision for our young student-athletes to fully understand and empathize with, but I'm sure their parents get it.
Good luck to coaches Alan Feldblum and Seth Willingham (who will still coach girls basketball at OM) and we hope to see you back on the sidelines again soon.
