Hawks/Raiders Highlights Week 1 Matchups

The State Champs River Hill Hawks will travel to Atholton to take on a Raider team that qualified for the playoffs last season during week 1 of the Howard County football regular season.

Last season, the Hawks finished with a perfect 14-0 record. They scored a total of 551 points (39.4 per game) and surrendered only 21 total points (1.5 per game). Their biggest personnel losses to graduation were RB/LB and All-County standout Zach Martin, and TE/LB Jonathan Hill. However, the Hawks return nearly their entire o-line and already have three players committed to DI schools next year (Michael Campanaro-Wake Forest, Malek Redd & Leron Eaddy-Central Michigan).

The Atholton Raiders lost to North Harford in the first round of the playoffs last year, but finished the season with a 7-3 county record; 7-4 overall. Unfortunately, the Raiders will have to somehow find a way to replace the heart of their offense, running back Kelechi Odocha, and the fire of their defense, linebacker Brian Nance.

If there's a time to catch the Hawks at less than 100%, it may be week 1 before they have a chance to find their rhythm and Atholton has more than adequate time to prepare. This could end up being one of River Hill's toughest games of the season.
