Malek Redd Commits to Central Michigan

A week after impressing the coaching staff at Central Michigan with his blazing 4.27 time in the 40 at a one-day camp in Michigan, River Hill running back and defensive back standout Malek Redd has accepted a full scholarship to play football for the Chippewas beginning in 2009.

Last season, Central Michigan finished the regular season with a 7-5 record and then topped Miami (OH) in the MAC Championship game and surprised the nation by barely falling to Purdue in the Motor City Bowl 48-51.

Central Michigan looks to be the ideal situation for Redd to succeed. The top two Chippewa running backs, Justin Hoskins and Ontario Sneed, are seniors. Also, both backs were used heavily in the passing game, which would take advantage of Redd's speed. Also, Head Coach Butch Jones spent the 2005 and 2006 seasons under Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia University employing the spread attack which translated in CMU being ranked 20th nationally in scoring and 21st in total offense last season.

Before heading west though, Redd will look to help the River Hill Hawks defend their Maryland state title. With superstar running back Michael Campanaro committed to playing wide receiver at Wake Forest in 2009, look for Head Coach Brian VanDeusen to possibly line up Campanaro in the slot or at H-back more often with Redd as the single back. Not only would this allow these players to become comfortable in the positions they hope to excel at in college, it will put the best players on the field for the Hawks in the best position to create uncertainty among opposing defenses.

Good luck and congratulations to Malek Redd on his tremendous accomplishment.
